Interscholastic recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northeast Law & Public Service, who took down 256th ranked Lincoln College Prep, 14-6.
The Vikings moved up to 282 from 318 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Interscholastic. Northeast Law & Public Service was able to make the jump by beating the Blue Tigers 14-6.
East's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Hassan Burnett threw for 228 and three touchdowns and Tyler Bluett had 130 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Bland chipped in 145 yards. Tyler Tucker helped East's passing attack out by catching three balls for 70 yards.
Burnett has thrown for 1079 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Tucker has 26 catches for 420 yards. Kevin Coulter leads the league in rushing with 345 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when East takes on Afrikan Centered. Greg Smith's team's offense has recorded 174 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Afrikan Centered has permitted only 196 on the year.
A big matchup in Interscholastic this week will be when Afrikan Centered takes on East. As it stands, Afrikan Centered is in sixth, while East is in first.
East led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Southwest Early College. Burnett ran for 80 yards in the win.
