The Taylor Yellowjackets will head out on the road to square off against the Roger Bacon Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Taylor has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Taylor is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Middletown just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 14-4 to the Middies.
Taylor saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Todorov, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Roger Bacon got the win against Purcell Marian on Thursday by a conclusive 11-5. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly six runs.
Kyle Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last nine games.
In other batting news, Evan Otto and De'Vion Gipson did most of the damage at the plate: Otto went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Gipson went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those three hits gave Gipson a new career-high. Owen Stewart was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Roger Bacon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purcell Marian only managed six hits.
The win made it two in a row for Roger Bacon and bumps their season record up to 8-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Taylor, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
Taylor couldn't quite finish off Roger Bacon in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 and fell 7-5. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
