Even though The Mount Vernon Mustangs scored an imposing 44 points on Friday, the Whitefield Academy WolfPack still came out on top. Whitefield Academy won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Mount Vernon 45-44. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Whitefield Academy.
Whitefield Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Callum Neese out in front who rushed for 60 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Ian Weihe was another key contributor, picking up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Nazarian, who threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Nazarian is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Walker Warshaw, who rushed for 86 yards and three touchdowns.
Whitefield Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitefield Academy will challenge Mount Pisgah Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
