Darren McGee and Landan Rehmel-Quinones did most of the damage at the plate: McGee went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Rehmel-Quinones went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. McGee is becoming a predictor of Bonanza's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-0-1 (and 2-10-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Alex Galvez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Bonanza always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Connor McDonald tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Palo Verde saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Knudson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Matthew Simmler was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Bonanza's win bumped their record up to 8-10-2. As for Palo Verde, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
