Point Pleasant hasn't had much luck against Winfield recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Point Pleasant Big Blacks will take on the Winfield Generals at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Two weeks ago, Point Pleasant ended up a good deal behind Buffalo and lost 54-40. The Big Blacks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Bella Tolliver, who posted 12 points and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Fields, who earned nine points.
Even though they lost, Point Pleasant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Winfield suffered their biggest loss since December 19, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against Wayne, falling 59-34. The defeat continues a trend for the Generals in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now lost five in a row.
Point Pleasant will have to contain Savannah Willard as she made an impact in Winfield's last game. She scored nine points.
Point Pleasant's record is now 4-18. As for Winfield, their record is now 11-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Point Pleasant has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Winfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Point Pleasant might still be hurting after the 58-36 loss they got from Winfield in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Can Point Pleasant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
