Basketball Recap: Fort Meade Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Lake Placid wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Fort Meade, they should've done a better job of containing Omari Russell. The Fort Meade Miners claimed a resounding 66-31 win over the Lake Placid Dragons thanks in part to Russell, who posted 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

Another player making a difference was Mekhi Berrien, who had 14 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Fort Meade and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Lake Placid, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Meade will host Frostproof at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Placid, they will face off against Avon Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Avon Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Lake Placid likes a good challenge.
