The Arvada West Wildcats suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Columbine by a score of 51-49. It was the first time this season that Arvada West let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Arvada West still got an impressive performance from Saylor Swanson, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Sara Walker was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Columbine found their leader in underclassman Jordyn Washington, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Washington is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Abraham, who scored 14 points.
Arvada West's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Columbine, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Arvada West will be playing at home against Lakewood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakewood has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7. As for Columbine, they will head out on the road to challenge Chatfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Chatfield is ranked 47th, while Columbine is ranked 33rd).
