The Jefferson Mustangs will challenge the Burbank Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Jefferson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Edison, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Jefferson blew past Edison 14-3 on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests in a row.
Danielle Calvario made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Castillo, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edison only posted an OBP of .321.
Meanwhile, Burbank got themselves on the board against Lanier on Tuesday, but Lanier never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Voks. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Evelyn Lopez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Burbank got a massive performance out of Abigale Serafin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kyrsten Garza, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Burbank has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jefferson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Burbank struggles in that department as they've averaged .563. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Burbank in their previous meeting on March 4th. Will Jefferson have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
