Boardman has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Boardman has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 187 points over their last three games.
Even though Boardman has not done well against Canfield recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Boardman had just enough and edged Canfield out 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Sarah Bero and Mackenzie Riccitelli were among the main playmakers for Boardman as the former dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bero has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Samantha Duble, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 29-28 to Roger Bacon. The contest was a 9-9 toss-up at halftime, but Cardinal Mooney was outscored by Roger Bacon in the second.
Boardman pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Cardinal Mooney, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8.
Everything came up roses for Boardman against Cardinal Mooney in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 55-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boardman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
