The Discovery Canyon Thunder are taking a road trip to take on The Classical Academy Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Discovery Canyon made easy work of Air Academy and carried off a 10-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Kadets: they've now won four in a row.
Ryan Egan looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carson Seeley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Ross, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask The Classical Academy). They were the clear victors by a 25-1 margin over Sierra on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Zack Hale was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hale was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Jack Thomas was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. David St Marie was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
The Classical Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The Classical Academy pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, their record now sits at 10-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Discovery Canyon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like The Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Discovery Canyon came out on top in a nail-biter against The Classical Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 12-11. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
