Baseball Recap: Reading Wins Going Away Against Deer Park

While Reading put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Deer Park. The Blue Devils blew past the Wildcats 28-0. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Jason Lunsford made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Lunsford was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Cole Marksberry looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Connor Davis was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and five RBI. He has become a key player for Reading: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Charlie Hess, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Reading hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Park struck out ten times.

Reading's record now sits at 5-3. As for Deer Park, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Reading will venture away from home to square off against Bethel-Tate at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.78 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Deer Park, they will face off against Mariemont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
