After flying high against the Osceola Warriors on Wednesday, the Gibbs Gladiators came back down to earth. Gibbs fell just short of Tampa Catholic by a score of 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Gibbs has suffered yet this season.
Several Gladiators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zacoya Grant, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Flournoy, who scored ten points.
Tampa Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zalani Carter, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Knox, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Gibbs' defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Tampa Catholic, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6.
Gibbs will head out on the road to square off against Northeast at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northeast will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 556th, while Gibbs is ranked 115th). As for Tampa Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wharton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wharton will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
