Softball Recap: Hough Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Hough came tearing into Thursday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the North Mecklenburg Vikings 19-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-0 back in March.

Aubrey Martin made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Hough got a massive performance out of Olivia Bechtel, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Bechtel is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amie Reinhart, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Hough hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.

Hough pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for North Mecklenburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Hough will look to defend their home field on Friday against Myers Park at 6:30 p.m. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for North Mecklenburg, they will venture away from home to take on Garinger at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
