Baseball Recap: The O'neal School Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

The O'Neal School had lost seven games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 4-7-1 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Northwood Temple Academy Eagles with a sharp 7-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-5 back in March.

Jake Shepherd made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of The O'Neal School's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 1-7-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kaiden Taveras was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The O'Neal School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are undefeated (2-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Northwood Temple Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Northwood Temple Academy's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Pereira, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Coincidentally, The O'Neal School and Northwood Temple Academy will both be playing Fayetteville Christian the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will host them at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
