Basketball Game Preview: Pisgah Dragons vs. Puckett Wolves

Pisgah has won eight straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Puckett has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Pisgah Dragons will host the Puckett Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Pisgah is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Pisgah escaped with a win against Union by the margin of a single free throw, 53-52. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pisgah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Laylah Johnson, who posted 16 points along with five boards and five steals. Johnson has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sariah Day, who went 10 of 25 en route to 17 points and four steals.

Pisgah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Puckett in a 52-37 win over Raleigh two weeks ago.

Puckett is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for Pisgah, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.

Pisgah was able to grind out a solid win over Puckett when the teams last played back in January, winning 48-41. Will Pisgah repeat their success, or does Puckett have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
