The Hillcrest Jaguars waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins but they left with five. They managed a 65-59 win over Escambia County. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Robert Simpson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jermonte Stallworth, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Hillcrest pushed their record up to 20-4 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Escambia County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Hillcrest will face off against Robertsdale at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Robertsdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Friday. Escambia County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Satsuma at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Satsuma is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
