The Jefferson Mustangs will be home for the holidays to greet the Highlands Owls at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jefferson has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17.
Jefferson's 25-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were outmatched by Alamo Heights on the road and fell 73-30. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1326th, while Alamo Heights is ranked 209th).
Meanwhile, Highlands had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Edison with a 43-37 victory on Tuesday. The win was just what Highlands needed coming off of a 72-47 defeat in their prior match.
Jefferson bumped their record down to 3-17 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.4 points per game. As for Highlands, their win bumped their record up to 4-20.
Jefferson came up short against Highlands in their previous meeting back in January, falling 62-57. Thankfully for Jefferson, Janiah Perkins (who almost dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
