Even though The Permian Panthers scored an imposing 44 points on Friday, the Frenship Tigers still came out on top. Frenship had just enough and edged Permian out 46-44. Given Frenship's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Permian is ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frenship got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hudson Hutcheson out in front who threw for 425 yards and six touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Hutcheson is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last four games he's played. Chase Campbell also helped out as he racked up 150 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Permian still got an impressive performance from Juzstyce Lara, who rushed for 218 yards. Lara was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Herrera, who rushed for 83 yards.
Frenship's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Permian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Frenship will take on Odessa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Mikey Cota and Hutcheson. As for Permian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against San Angelo Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Angelo Central is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
