Mountain Crest and Uintah squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mountain Crest had to settle for second. They took a 73-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Uintah Utes. One positive for the Mustangs, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Mountain Crest's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Parker Andrus, who went 6-for-9 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. That's the most points Andrus has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Cardon, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 17 points.
Uintah's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon Jenson led the charge by going 8-for-17 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Jenson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dauson Gardiner, who went 9-for-18 en route to 24 points.
Mountain Crest has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points over those games. As for Uintah, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.
Mountain Crest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Uintah, they are taking a road trip to challenge Cottonwood at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Cottonwood's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Uintah has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
