The Mesquite Wildcats won the last time they faced the Arcadia Titans, and things went their way on Monday too. Mesquite claimed a resounding 71-32 victory over Arcadia on the road. Given Mesquite's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Arcadia is ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mesquite was led to victory by Desean Middlebrook and Jaylon Hooks. Middlebrook scored 21 points along with three blocks, while Hooks scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hooks has scored all season. Carter Mehlberg was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Arcadia lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Matthew Richardson, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Knee, who scored eight points.
Mesquite has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Arcadia, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.
Mesquite will be playing at home against Marcos de Niza at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mesquite knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 matches -- so hopefully Marcos de Niza likes a good challenge. As for Arcadia, they will head out on the road to face off against Seton Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
