Winter Haven is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Durant is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Winter Haven Blue Devils will take on the Durant Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Winter Haven knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 24 matchups -- so hopefully Durant likes a good challenge.
In what's become a running theme this season, Winter Haven gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 80-36 victory over Ridge Community. With Winter Haven ahead 59-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Winter Haven had a senior duo take command as Isaac Celiscar almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds and Jamie Phillips jr almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine assists. Celiscar is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Cezanne "Zay" Mosley was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Durant proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Plant City by a score of 56-45.
Durant got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Wylde Correa out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Correa hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Lopez, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals.
Winter Haven's victory bumped their record up to 23-1. As for Durant, their victory bumped their record up to 21-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Winter Haven have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Durant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
