Amherst County is 1-9 against Jefferson Forest since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Amherst County Lancers will head out on the road to square off against the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Amherst County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Amherst County had to suffer through a rough 77-50 loss at the hands of Rustburg. While losing is never fun, Amherst County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Rustburg is ranked 39th).
Despite their defeat, Amherst County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Austin Brooks, who scored ten points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Zech Lilly was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Forest can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Brookville as Jefferson Forest made off with a 55-32 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Jefferson Forest.
Amherst County's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Jefferson Forest, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Amherst County suffered a grim 60-40 defeat to Jefferson Forest when the teams last played back in January. Can Amherst County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
