Two dominant players in Logan Laverty and Jayce King are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Monarch Coyotes will head out on the road to take on the Fort Collins Lambkins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Monarch scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with an 82-71 victory over Mountain Range. The victory was nothing new for Monarch as they're now sitting on five straight.
Monarch's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Trujillo, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trujillo has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Carlson, who scored 19 points along with four steals.
Fort Collins posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 92-46 victory over Prairie View on the road. Given Fort Collins' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Prairie View is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
King continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 44 points and 1 assist. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Fort Collins' points. Marcel Herrera was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Monarch has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Fort Collins, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Monarch hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 61.4 points per game. It's a different story for Fort Collins, though, as they've been averaging only 70.3 points per game. The only thing between Monarch and another offensive beatdown is Fort Collins. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Monarch suffered a grim 80-60 defeat to Fort Collins in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Monarch, Luke Wagstaff (who dropped a triple-double on 24 points, 18 rebounds, and ten assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
