Eldorado and Sonora are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eldorado has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eldorado is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 24 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Colorado on Tuesday. They lost 17-1 to the Wolves. The Eagles have struggled against the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Sonora never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Christoval on Tuesday. They blew past the Cougars 20-14. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Stefani Trevino and Valerie DeLeon were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Trevino struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and 13 unearned) runs off 12 hits. Meanwhile, DeLeon tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Trevino a new career-high. At the plate, Trevino scored three runs while going 3-for-6, while DeLeon scored two runs while going 1-for-6.
In other batting news, Aanz'Leigh Abalos was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liliana Gallegos, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Sonora was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .422. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Sonora's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Eldorado, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Eldorado might still be hurting after the 23-13 defeat they got from Sonora when the teams last played back in March. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
