The Nokomis Redskins will venture away from home to face off against the Taylorville Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Taylorville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Nokomis, who comes in off a win.
Nokomis headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Riverton let them put that streak behind them. The Redskins put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 19-3 win on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Redskins as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Cloey Dirks made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Nokomis got a massive performance out of Grace DeWerff, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave DeWerff a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Morrison, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Nokomis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverton struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Taylorville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Warrensburg-Latham. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tornadoes have suffered since May 21, 2024.
Like Nokomis, Taylorville also got a great game from a two-way player: Peyton DeMicheal. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. DeMicheal was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
DeMicheal wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was McKynlee Siempelkamp, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Siempelkamp also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
Nokomis picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-10. As for Taylorville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Nokomis came out on top in a nail-biter against Taylorville in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Redskins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornadoes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
