The Ray Bearcats posted their biggest win since December 19, 2023 on Friday. They blew past Superior 42-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Ray has posted against Superior since January 24, 2020.
Ray found their leader in underclassman Makayla Barajas, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barajas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Malena Goad, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Superior's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stephanie Lopez, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and five steals. Lilianna Fritz was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Superior smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
The win makes it two in a row for Ray and bumps their season record up to 8-17. As for Superior, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ray will challenge Globe at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Superior, Superior and Fort Thomas will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fort Thomas presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Superior in Arizona (Fort Thomas is ranked 102nd, while Superior is ranked 299th).
