The Oakes Tornadoes had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley] 65-26 on the road. That's another feather in the cap for Oakes, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Oakes was led to victory by Brianna Schmitz and Lily Thorpe. Schmitz scored 14 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds, while Thorpe scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Savannah Sundby, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
Oakes' win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley], their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakes will square off against Medina/Pingree-Buchanan at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Border co-op [Wishek/Ashley] will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Central at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th.
