Capital (Charleston, W. Va.) jumped out to an early lead against
Riverside (Belle, W. Va.) and never looked back on the way to a 35-16 victory on Saturday.
The Cougars put up 14 points in the opening frame. Capital scored on a
James Richmond touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Kashaun Haley.
CHS was up 21-10 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Richmond in the first quarter.
The Charleston school expanded its lead to 25 points entering the fourth quarter. The Cougars scored two times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown.
Trevor Rumberg made a difference for the Warriors. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Richmond was the top performer for Capital. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
CHS got revenge for last year's 14-7 loss to Riverside with the victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Cougars, which was coming off a 23-20 defeat at the hands of Hurricane in its previous game.
Capital (3-2) goes up against Cabell Midland in a Mountain State game matchup next week, while Riverside (1-5) locks horns with George Washington also in a Mountain State game.
