Basketball Recap: Conifer Comes Up Short

Conifer and Peak to Peak squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Conifer had to settle for second. They came up short against the Peak to Peak Pumas, falling 70-47. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while the Pumas are ranked 21st).

Despite the loss, Conifer still got an impressive performance from Benson White, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. The game was White's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Warner, who posted seven points.

Peak to Peak was led to victory by Tysen Burton and Cole Boonstra. Burton went 9-for-16 to rack up 22 points in addition to eight steals and five assists, while Boonstra shot 71% from the field en route to 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Boonstra a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Eschmeyer, who earned seven points along with seven boards and three blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Conifer and nudges their season record down to 12-12. As for Peak to Peak, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season.

Conifer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Peak to Peak, they have already played their next contest, a 67-62 loss against University on the 8th.
