Richardy Fernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jose Hernandez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Medina, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs.
Lincoln Leadership Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .756. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bristol hit Plumstead Christian with a six-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Plumstead Christian fell 12-8 to Bristol.
Chase Blattner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Plumstead Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Santi Torres was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Lincoln Leadership Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Plumstead Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lincoln Leadership Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Plumstead Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lincoln Leadership Academy might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Plumstead Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
