It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Irmo ultimately got the result they hoped for. They skirted past Lugoff-Elgin 66-64. Irmo's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Claire Howard, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Andrea Collins was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Richland Northeast's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 48-20 defeat at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Richland Northeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Westwood is ranked 31st).
The victory got Irmo back to even at 8-8. As for Richland Northeast, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9.
Irmo came out on top in a nail-biter against Richland Northeast when the teams last played on January 5th, sneaking past 40-38. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Richland Northeast's Zimarika Moorer, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
