The Clark Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Madison Mavericks at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Clark is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Churchill just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The game marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison). Everything went their way against Reagan on Friday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. The Mavericks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2025 (when they won 14-0).
Landon Lee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Cummings, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Myles Stewart, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs.
Madison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Clark's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-11. As for Madison, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-12-1.
Clark came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison when the teams last played back in March of 2025, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
