The Milpitas Trojans will square off against the Leigh Longhorns on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Milpitas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Christopher 8-7.
Dominique Walker spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Isabella Garcia was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Casandra Curiel, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Milpitas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, Leigh narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mills 4-3.
Leigh also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Reagyn Hider gave up three earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Brianna Hooper was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Prestley Mueller was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Milpitas has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Leigh, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.
