Walker Valley hasn't had much luck against Silverdale Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Seahawks at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Walker Valley earned a 5-1 win over East Hamilton.
Olivia Presswood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Byers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Benson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Meanwhile, Silverdale Academy owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Notre Dame. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Airebis Cox was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Hensley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Silverdale Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notre Dame only posted a batting average of .067.
Walker Valley's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Silverdale Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 20-4-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walker Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Silverdale Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
