The Mora Mustangs will take on the Aitkin Gobblers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mora will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Monday, Mora made easy work of East Central and carried off a 14-7 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Athey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Athey was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ava Olson was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Rhiannon Ashworth was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Mora was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Aitkin unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 7-1 to Esko. The matchup marked the Gobblers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Aitkin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Edwards, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Edwards' first of the season.
Aitkin's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Mora, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mora has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Aitkin struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
