Santa Rosa has gone 8-2 against Mora recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Rangers/Rangerettes at 1:00 p.m. Santa Rosa knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Mora likes a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Santa Rosa got the win against Clayton by a conclusive 19-3. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Amaya Gonzales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Gonzales was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Santa Rosa got a massive performance out of Leah Moncayo, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave Moncayo a new career-high. Angelina Silva was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Santa Rosa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mora posted their closest win since May 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out McCurdy 7-5.
Like Santa Rosa, Mora also got a great game from a two-way player: Justina Duran. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Duran was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Duran wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cierra Benavidez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Benavidez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another was Marianna Olivas, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Mora has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Santa Rosa, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both Santa Rosa and Mora just can't seem to miss. The Lions have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Mora struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Rosa suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Mora in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
