The Wisdom Pioneers will face off against the Washburn Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last five games Wisdom has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Wisdom is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since May 15, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Hodgdon by a score of 7-5.
Camden Pelletier was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Pelletier was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Alex Bebout made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those RBI were his first of the season. Joel Desjardins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washburn). They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Ashland on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Beavers, who have now won three contests in a row.
Like Wisdom, Washburn also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake King. On the mound, King pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brayden Boulier tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. King also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Washburn is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise. At bat, King went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Boulier went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. King has been hot for a while, having also posted at least one stolen base the last 12 times he's played.
In other batting news, Damien DuMont was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
Washburn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The victory got Washburn back to even at 4-4. As for Wisdom, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.
Washburn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wisdom hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. It's a different story for Washburn, though, as they've only averaged .221. Will they be able to contain Wisdom's hitters?
Everything went Wisdom's way against Washburn when the teams last played on May 1st, as Wisdom made off with a 16-5 win. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Beavers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
