For the first time this season, West Lafayette will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Twin Lakes Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Lafayette will be strutting in after a win while Twin Lakes will be coming in after a loss.
West Lafayette barely beat Seeger the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Patriots on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.
Molly Mansfield was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bree Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cam Wallace, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
West Lafayette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seeger only posted a batting average of .095.
Meanwhile, Twin Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Carroll, falling 12-4. That's two games in a row now that the Indians have lost by exactly eight runs.
Taylor Oliver was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Hughes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Twin Lakes' loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for West Lafayette, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Everything went West Lafayette's way against Twin Lakes in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as West Lafayette made off with a 19-13 victory. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
