Softball Recap: St. Helena Picks Up 16th Consecutive Win

St. Helena had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 16 on Tuesday. They never let the Upper Lake Cougars get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Saints have won 18 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tahlia Smith made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ellie Carmichael was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Olive Filippini was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

St. Helena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

St. Helena pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Upper Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

St. Helena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Upper Lake, they are taking a road trip to face off against Clear Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
