Alta (Sandy, Utah) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 3 in Utah, but was stunned by
Timpview (Provo, Utah), 41-28. Timpview was ranked at No. 8 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Utah coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the second quarter, the Thunderbirds led 28-13 at the half.
Timpview grew its lead to 22 points entering the fourth quarter. THS scored once in the quarter on a passing touchdown.
Chipper Lucero, who passed for four touchdowns, was a bright spot for the Hawks during the defeat.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Alta took, 35-14.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Provo school, which was coming off a 21-19 defeat at the hands of Pleasant Grove in its previous game. The loss comes after Alta defeated Lone Peak 35-17 last week.
