The Chaminade Flyers were the 36-20 winner over the Cardinal Hayes Cardinals when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Chaminade took a 36-18 bruising from Cardinal Hayes on Friday. While losing is never fun, Chaminade can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Cardinal Hayes is ranked first).
Chaminade's loss came despite strong showings from Tyler Granito and Brendan Park. Granito threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns, while Park picked up 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Reid Jones was the offensive standout of the game as he picked up 110 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Chaminade are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Cardinal Hayes, Archbishop Stepinac, and Moore Catholic. As for Cardinal Hayes, their victory was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 8-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chaminade is on the road again on Friday and play against Archbishop Stepinac at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Archbishop Stepinac has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 140 points over their last three matches. As for Cardinal Hayes, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Anthony's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
