New Kent is a perfect 10-0 against Bruton since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Kent has five straight wins, Bruton has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, New Kent made easy work of Tabb and carried off a 14-2 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Abbie Kegley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Kegley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Wiles and Hannah Tober did most of the damage at the plate: Wiles got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Tober went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Wiles has posted since back in March. Cassidy Branch also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
New Kent hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Bruton couldn't beat Grafton on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Panthers came up short against the Clippers, falling 17-7.
Bruton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madyson Califano, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Rosalie Lightner was another, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
New Kent's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Bruton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Kent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Bruton struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Kent took their win against Bruton in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 25-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
