If the Meridian Mustangs were riding high off their 64-44 takedown of the High Plains Storm last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Meridian took a 50-35 bruising from the Bulldogs on Friday. The game was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but Meridian couldn't quite close it out.
Meridian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Dimas, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Dimas hasn't dropped below four steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaylee Sobotka, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Osceola had a senior duo take command as Courtney Sunday scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Emma Recker scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Sunday scored 15 or more points.
Meridian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Osceola, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Meridian will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles on Tuesday. As for Osceola, they will be playing at home against the Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. High Plains has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
