La Vega is 5-0 against Salado since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The La Vega Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Salado Eagles at 6:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
La Vega entered their tilt with Connally with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. La Vega blew past Connally 67-28 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory La Vega has posted since December 28, 2023.
La Vega's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kiyleyah Parr, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, and Mar?Cyah Willis, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Willis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydney Mckinney, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Salado scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 90-34 win over Gatesville. Given Salado's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Gatesville is ranked 733rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Vega pushed their record up to 22-8 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Salado, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.
Everything came up roses for La Vega against Salado in their previous meeting on January 5th as the squad secured a 73-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Vega since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
