Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Edgewood's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Edgewood hadn't done well against Martinsville recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Artesians with a sharp 7-0 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

ALLY BLAND made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, ELLA SPROUL was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was LIZZY AUSTIN, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Edgewood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Martinsville, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-14.

Coming up, Edgewood will challenge Owen Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Martinsville, they will face off against Decatur Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Artesians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
