Tarynn Vorhes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Waynesfield-Goshen let Rayne Oakes and Makenna Shaw run wild. Oakes scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Shaw scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Oakes has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbi Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fairlawn took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past Archbishop Alter 11-1.
Like Waynesfield-Goshen, Fairlawn also got a great game from a two-way player: Avah Roediger. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Roediger was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Fairlawn got a massive performance out of Amara Dewberry, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Daisey Vondenhuevel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Waynesfield-Goshen suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Fairlawn in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Can Waynesfield-Goshen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
