The Buckhorn Wildcats will challenge the Morgan County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Buckhorn has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Buckhorn is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Pike County Central just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 14-3 to the Hawks.

Austin Riley and Gunner Gay stepped up to the plate in a big way. Riley went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Gay got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Gay has become a key player for Buckhorn: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-13 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Morgan County waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Hornets. Considering the Cougars have won six games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Willis and Parker Trusty were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Willis didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Trusty pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Willis went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Trusty went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Trusty has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Grayson Hampton was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaac Campbell, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Morgan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Magoffin County only posted an OBP of .148.
Buckhorn's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Morgan County, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Buckhorn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Morgan County struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
