It was a good run, but the Springfield Senators unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 55-47 to Rochester. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Springfield came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Rockets are ranked 301st).
Leading Rochester to victory were Becca Ryan and Ellie Gegen. Ryan scored 14 points along with two steals, while Gegen scored 19 points. It was the first time this season that Gegen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyse Day, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Rochester, they pushed their record up to 11-17 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will square off against the Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rochester, they will head out on the road to challenge the Generals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully MacArthur focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Tuesday.
