The Laurel Golden Tornadoes will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Northeast Jones Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Northeast Jones took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Laurel, who comes in off a win.
Even though Quitman scored an imposing 63 points last Tuesday, Laurel still came out on top. Laurel took their game against Quitman 72-63. The win was all the more spectacular given Laurel's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Quitman is ranked 42nd).
Meanwhile, Northeast Jones' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by Mendenhall 57-30. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Northeast Jones has scored all season.
Laurel is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for Northeast Jones, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-11.
Laurel strolled past Northeast Jones in their previous meeting on December 5th by a score of 66-49. Will Laurel repeat their success, or does Northeast Jones have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
