The Liberty Lions can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 48-47 win over Mountain Ridge. The victory was just what Liberty needed coming off of a 69-29 loss in their prior matchup.
Liberty found their leader in underclassman Makenna Johnson, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilliana Welstad, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds.
Mountain Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaliyahna Baldwin, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Gloria Hines who scored 11 points along with five steals. Baldwin is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Maddie Green was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds.
Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Mountain Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty and the Jaguars will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Boulder Creek is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Mountain Ridge, they and the Vikings will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sunnyslope presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mountain Lions in Arizona (the Vikings are ranked 26th, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 165th).
